Margo Price's J-45: Built Around Her Beloved 60s Model, With the Freedom and Craftsmanship That Define Her Music
Margo Price doesn't let her music be confined to a single genre. She moves effortlessly between country, Americana, and classic rock, and her 1960s Gibson J-45 has always been her faithful companion. The Gibson Custom Margo Price J-45 is built around that instrument: her own description of it as "my main baby; my guitar I play all the time" was the starting point for every design choice. The result is a J-45 that has all the qualities of the original, but with an unmistakable character of its own.
The guitar features a solid red spruce top with traditional hand-scalloped Advanced X-bracing on a slightly thinner mahogany body, which enhances response and resonance. The LR Baggs electronics make the instrument immediately ready for stage and studio without compromising its acoustic properties. The most striking detail are the dual 50's-style pickguards with red-tailed hawks, a personal symbol for Margo. "I see them everywhere, precisely at the moments I need them," she said. "They remind me to find strength in vulnerability." That sentiment is incorporated into this instrument.
The mahogany neck has a Rounded profile with a rosewood fretboard, Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays, and 20 frets over a 24.75-inch scale. The nut and saddle are bone, the bridge pins are TUSQ. The rosewood Traditional Belly-Up bridge and Grover cream button tuners complete an instrument that is pure, expressive, and full of life, just like Margo Price's music itself. Delivered in a luxurious hardshell case.
