This 2002 Gibson Les Paul bears Tom Murphy’s craftsmanship in every nuance
A '59 Les Paul Historic Reissue with a story that goes beyond just a beautiful top: according to the accompanying email confirmation, this 2002 Gibson Custom Shop model was entirely finished and aged by Tom Murphy. The Heritage Cherry Sunburst lets the flamed maple top speak for itself, while subtle checking and patinated hardware evoke the appearance of an instrument that has been played for years. For the enthusiast, it is precisely the combination of that craftsmanship and a playable Les Paul that makes this guitar so special.
Two original Gibson Classic '57 humbuckers give the guitar a full, warm foundation with enough definition to keep chords open. The neck pickup invites round melodies, while the bridge pickup provides more bite for pronounced riffs and solos. With the two volume controls, two tone controls, and three-way switch, you can toggle between these characters and shape them to your liking. The sturdy yet comfortable '59 neck and classic Les Paul construction make it tempting not just to look at the instrument, but to play it for hours on end.
The specifications include a mahogany body with a flamed maple top, a mahogany neck with a long tenon, and a rosewood fretboard with trapezoid inlays. The guitar has 22 frets, a 24.75-inch scale length, an ABR-1 bridge, and Kluson Single Line/Single Ring tuners. The aged nickel hardware matches the finish applied by Murphy. A Gibson Custom Shop Lifton Reissue case with pink plush is included. There is no Certificate of Authenticity with this guitar; however, there is an email from Tom Murphy confirming that the instrument is his work.
This instrument is in very good, collectible condition. In addition to the intentionally applied Murphy aging, there are normal signs of wear consistent with a guitar from 2002. All parts, including the Classic '57 pickups, are original. Before shipping or pickup, the instrument will be inspected and, if necessary, set up by our technician.
Discover this special '59 Reissue for yourself and experience how convincingly Tom Murphy’s work feels in your hands.
