The Gibson SG Standard '61 Vintage Cherry: as close to the original as modern manufacturing allows
The SG Standard '61 is the most period-correct SG that Gibson makes today. Vintage Cherry finish, Burstbucker 61 pickups, hand-wired electronics with Orange Drop capacitors: every detail refers to the original 1961 design with which Gibson changed the guitar world. This is not nostalgia; this is the real deal in a modern guise.
The Burstbucker 61 pickups are designed to reproduce the authentic P.A.F. sound of the early SGs, and they do so convincingly. Warm and open in the neck, sharp and present at the bridge, and always responsive to your playing dynamics. The hand-wired electronics with Orange Drop capacitors provide a clear, transparent tone delivery that simply cannot be achieved with modern PCB electronics.
The thin mahogany body with Slim Taper neck and rosewood fretboard, Acrylic Trapezoid inlays, and 22 frets on a 24.75" scale offers the direct, fast playability for which the SG is famous. The ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with aluminum Stop Bar is period-correct and delivers excellent intonation. Grover tuning machines ensure stable tuning. Soft case included.
For those who want the SG '61 as it once was, but with the reliability of a new instrument, the Standard '61 Vintage Cherry is the best choice in the current Gibson lineup.
