The Gibson 1957 L-5 CES shows why the archtop holds its own place in jazz
A carved spruce top, beautifully figured maple, and two Custombuckers: the Gibson Custom 1957 L-5 CES Reissue is an archtop for players who want to explore tonal color and touch in every detail. This version in Antique Natural combines the characteristic L-5 shape with a VOS nitrocellulose lacquer and classic gold hardware. We expect to receive this guitar around December. It is an instrument to look forward to, especially if you love the combination of acoustic resonance and a full, amplified jazz tone.
The hollowbody construction with a carved AAA spruce top, a carved AAA curly maple back, and solid maple sides forms the basis for an open response and clear articulation. The two unpotted Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers offer room for rounded chord tones and singing melodic lines. With individual volume and tone controls, you can balance both pickups, from a warm neck tone to a brighter accent at the bridge. Especially with subtle phrasing and carefully constructed chords, this L-5 invites you to use your picking technique consciously.
The three-piece maple and walnut neck has an Authentic 1957 L-5 profile and a dovetail joint. The ebony fretboard features twenty Reissue Medium Jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl block inlays, with a 12-inch radius and a 25.5-inch scale length. The Corian nut is 42.86 mm wide. An ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge on a rosewood base, the Trapeze L5 tailpiece, and gold Kluson Sealfast tuners with Keystone buttons complete the instrument. The multi-ply bindings, tortoise pickguard, and mother-of-pearl flowerpot on the headstock emphasize its classic appearance.
This Gibson L-5 CES comes with a Reissue hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity. A distinct jazz guitar for those who are not only looking for a rich tone, but also want to discover how much character can reside in a single, carefully played note.
