The Bebop that Henny Vrienten of Doe Maar commissioned and played on stage
In 2012, Henny Vrienten, bassist and singer of the legendary Dutch band Doe Maar, commissioned Sander de Gier to build two Bebop basses: one in black, one in white. This white one is the result. Originally delivered with a white pickguard, it was later fitted with a Tortoise plate. An instrument with a story and a proven stage career.
The Bebop is the bass that put De Gier on the map. Sander designed it as a modern, versatile workhorse for the demanding bassist, inspired by the classic Jazz bass but executed entirely in his own way. The result is an instrument that convinced both Marcus Miller and Richard Bona to order one immediately. The alder body, hard maple neck with compound radius rosewood fretboard and block inlays provide a playing comfort you feel right away. The brass bridge gives a full, balanced tone across the entire range.
The neck is built with years of knowledge: dual action truss rod, carbon reinforcement, light Res-o-lite tuners, and a thick heel for maximum stability. The electronics are passive, with the exception of the Fatboost, a subtle bass boost that gives the low end just that extra weight. Controls via volume, volume, dual tone, and Fatboost. 21 frets, 34" scale, C-neck profile, and a compound radius from 7.5" to 12". This is a collector's item and a bass you just want to play.
