When Gibson introduced the Explorer along with the Flying V in 1958, the guitar world wasn't ready for such a radical design. The angular, asymmetrical body broke with everything that was common until then, and precisely because of that, the Explorer grew into one of the most iconic silhouettes in the history of the electric guitar. The Gibson 70s Explorer is a tribute to that period: the same striking body shape, the same no-nonsense attitude, but made accessible for the current generation of guitarists.

The Explorer sounds exactly as you'd expect from Gibson: thick, warm, and with enough character to hold its own in any genre. The two 70s Tribute humbuckers convincingly approximate the sound of the original 70s pickups — full midrange, sturdy attack, and enough dynamic range to go from clean crunch to fully overdriven. The full mahogany construction contributes to that typical Gibson warmth and sustain.
