A beautiful Gibson LG-2 inspired by the original recipe from the 1950s.
Originally introduced in 1942, in the midst of Gibson’s legendary Banner era , the LG-2 took over from the L-00 and quickly became one of Gibson’s most beloved small-body acoustic guitars. Released alongside icons like the J-45™ and the Southern Jumbo, the LG-2 was aimed at players seeking a full, balanced sound in a more compact and comfortable size—a perfect alternative to larger bodies.
With the LG-2 50s Original, Gibson is reviving this classic. This model pays tribute to the highly sought-after models of the 1950s and is the result of years of demand from enthusiasts and players. Vintage appeal and modern craftsmanship seamlessly blend here.
The guitar is constructed with a solid Sitka spruce top with traditional scalloped X-bracing, paired with solid mahogany back and sides. This wood choice produces a rich, resonant tone with clarity, balance, and dynamics. The body is finished with three-ply binding on the top and single-ply binding on the back, adding to its classic appearance.
The mahogany neck has a comfortable rounded profile and is attached with a compound dovetail joint, secured with hot hide glue for maximum resonance and tone transfer. The unbound rosewood fingerboard has 20 frets and features subtle mother-of-pearl dot inlays – simple, stylish, and timeless.
Completing the look is a beveled, rectangular rosewood bridge with two mother-of-pearl dots, a bone nut and saddle, TUSQ® bridge pins, Grover® tuners with white buttons, and a tortoiseshell teardrop pickguard for that authentic vintage look.
The Sitka spruce top gives the LG-2 50s Original a lively, bright, and beautifully balanced character, distinguishing it from the mahogany-topped LG-2 models from the wartime era. This makes this guitar versatile for a variety of playing styles and genres. Its smaller size makes it comfortable to play, while adding a distinctive, characterful tone in the studio.
To meet modern demands, the LG-2 50s Original is equipped with an LR Baggs™ VTC pickup system, with volume and tone controls discreetly located in the soundhole. This makes the guitar immediately ready for stage or studio use, without compromising its vintage character.
